I was excited about reading this book because it's written by Liam Lusk. I've followed Liam's Presentation Expressions blog and his personal blog for quite some time, so I was looking forward to reading his book. I had high expectations for the book, and it definitely met those expectations.
The book is written primarily for people who've never presented before (or who have very little experience speaking in public) and for whom English is a second language. If that sounds like you - stop reading and get the book now! I've read several hundred books on presentation skills, and this is the only one I've come across which directly focuses on the needs of presenters who are not fluent English speakers and who have very little experience presenting. As someone who used to teach presentation skills to non-native English speakers in Hong Kong, I highly recommend the book to you and will be recommending it to my clients too.
Here's what I enjoyed most about the book It provides a specific blueprint that anyone can follow to create and deliver a great presentation. Liam walks you through each aspect of the presentation (from introducing yourself to preparing your script to designing your Powerpoint). This step-by-step explanation is crucial for people who are newbie presenters.
The book is split into 9 sections, with each section covering one major aspect of presenting. The first chapter looks at Information you need in order to create a great presentation. In this section, Liam uses the acronym APT to describe the three things you need to know before you begin preparing your presentation. Other sections in the book cover how to craft a compelling introduction, use your body effectively to convey your points, use a storyboard to visualize your presentation and creating your speech script.
My personal favorite chapter in the book was the chapter on Visuals. If you're like most speakers who rely on text-heavy Powerpoint slides, applying the techniques you learn in this chapter will help you become twice the presenter that you are today. In my opinion, this chapter alone is worth the price of the book.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Highly recommended if you're a newbie presenter or a second-language speaker of English looking to learn how to deliver great presentations. The books contains some valuable gems - all for the price of a cup of coffee!
Packed full of information, Liam Lusk's guide will be helpful to many new - and some seasoned - presenters. Very helpful information.
I have been following Liam's website for a few months. It is full of great tips to make your presentations better. In this book he has brought everything together so you can get ideas at any time. I teach my university students presentation classes and often use Liam's tips to help them improve.

I'm thoroughly impressed with how Liam Lusk has provided information that actually MATTERS -and that relates directly to both the technical aspects of creating a presentation (ie choosing fonts -how to do it, what the differences are between fonts, etc) AND the non-technical (ie word & information choice according to the type of audience) ...this resource is EXTREMELY valuable -regardless of how many times you've presented (and yes, even if you've never actually attempted to present EVER).
It's DEFINITELY worth at least 10-times more than the asking price ...and was more practically useful to me after only a quick scan through those chapters that caught my eye first, than books & courses that I've wasted hundreds if dollars on over the past 20 years!
Buy it if you haven't yet ;-)
Never presented formal presentation before, never used PowerPoint, never used graphics nor animation. The steps are easily followed. Do as the author suggests and be on your way. You will become very good using these steps. You and only you can take it to the next level by practicing as suggested and doing your homework. It really is all about simple preparation. The book needed proofreading for sentence errors.
